Overview
Dental implants are utilized to replace many lost teeth for both cosmetic reasons and overall functionality. They are titanium posts that are surgically placed in the top and bottom arches of the mouth. Dental implants are fixed into the jawbone and may subsequently be connected to crowns or dentures. Contemporary Dental Arts in Williston, VT, directed by Dr. Lauren Shanard, offers customized dental implants in order to restore our patients' beautiful smiles. Made from top-of-the-line, durable materials for a secure fit, implants look like real teeth and last up to 25 years.

Best Candidates for Dental Implants
Candidates for the implant procedure are any patients who are missing many or all of their teeth. Tooth loss can be caused by a genetic disorder, trauma, or decay. Dental implants are a good alternative for those looking for a long-term solution for replacing their missing teeth. You should also have mostly healthy gums and normal bone surface so the implants can be properly integrated. Before recommending any dental procedure, Dr. Shanard will assess your oral health to determine whether implants are the best option.
What to Expect
Prior to beginning your procedure, our team will obtain CT scans, digital x-rays, and/or impressions to evaluate for the placement of your implants. Dental implants are typically surgically inserted while you are under general anesthesia or IV sedation. For single-tooth implants, Dr. Shanard will perform the procedure personally. In complex cases where multiple implants are being placed, a team of multi-specialty dentists will work together to perform the surgery. Once the implants are installed into the jawbone, Dr. Shanard or our team will attach dentures or a temporary crown to the structure while your permanent structures are being created. This will also help to certify that the implants have time to incorporate into the jaw. Once the implants are fully integrated, permanent fixtures will be installed.
Recovery
A follow-up appointment may be recommended a couple of weeks after getting your permanent crowns or dentures to check the comfort and fit. Your implants need to be taken care of in the same manner as your natural teeth. Patients will also need to continue to undergo regular dental examinations and checkups. When properly cared for, implants may last up to 25 years.
Financing
The cost of your dental work will depend on your insurance agency and your current benefits. Before your treatment, our financial team will get in contact with your insurance carrier to determine your potential out-of-pocket expenses. Contemporary Dental Arts also accepts medical financing to help make treatments affordable.
