Even if you have a perfect oral hygiene routine at home, it can still be beneficial for you to get a professional dental cleaning at Contemporary Dental Arts twice each year. Using advanced equipment, a professional dental cleaning removes built-up plaque and tartar, and then polishes the enamel for a healthier, brighter smile. After your cleaning, you can ask for tips on caring for your teeth at home and discover certain areas that may need treatment. A professional dental cleaning will give dentist Dr. Lauren Shanard a chance to identify any problem areas in your mouth that may need care. Having a professional dental cleaning is an important step in keeping up your dental health, so make an appointment for yourself and your family at our Williston, VT location.
Dental Cleaning Reviews
"I was referred by my partner who has been going for routine cleaning and cosmetic work over the past couple years, both with amazing results. I couldn't be happier that I made an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. Not only was I made aware of certain "problem areas" in my mouth for the first time ever, but my hygienist took to the time to educate me on accessible ways I can address them. I didn't come with any questions but I left with many answers. Even more, the staff was beyond friendly and everything was impeccably clean and welcoming. My only regret is that I didn't start coming sooner!"- L.K. / Google / May 22, 2016
"After reading the review of "beware", I need to ask, What office are they talking about" and what work did they have done? My visits with Dr. Shanard and staff have been wonderful. The quality of service is outstanding and I have recommended may of my friends, co-workers and family to her. All of them are very happy and love the Dr. and Staff...as a matter of fact, one even said that it was least painful cleaning she has ever had. My teeth were stained and my front two were overlapped. Dr. Shanard has made me look like a movie star!! She is the most experienced person in her field in this area. I can't say enough good stuff about her."- Google User / Google / May 22, 2011
"If you are like me and my family, the most important things in a dental practice are relationships, trust, and competence. At Contemporary Dental Arts, we feel all three of these things very deeply. And, on top of all this - well - who knew you could have fun at the dentist?! They are a fun bunch of folks, for sure. Our non-traditional family is not only accepted but embraced in this office. They remember things about our lives and take genuine pleasure in hearing our updated stories. This is important because it seems to me that dental work is a pretty intimate experience so, the relationship piece is super important. And, need not we forget about the competence piece - we have never had better or more professional teeth cleanings or fillings or, dare we say, crown work done anywhere else. The work they do on our teeth is always explained to us in language we can understand. They give us choice about what we want to have done. And it doesn't hurt. I think they have pretty state of the art equipment because I had some crown work done just today and truly - no pain. They also consider the financial burden that dental care can be on a family and thoroughly check our insurance to make sure it's a good time to have the work done or not. This another place the trust comes in. There are so many things to research and know about these days - but we just want to be able to walk in, trust our health to the professionals that work there, trust we aren't going to have work done that we don't need, trust that we won't be charged a kazillion dollars for it, and be on with our busy lives. We can do that here with them. We trust them, we find them to be competent beyond competence, and the relationship piece makes going there a whole lot easier than it would be otherwise."- J.B. / Google / May 22, 2015

The ADA (American Dental Association) recommends patients have a professional cleaning two times a year. Babies should have a visit to the dentist before they turn one and following that, Dr. Shanard can help you decide when your child is old enough for their next dental appointment. A professional cleaning may help you avoid cavities because built-up plaque, the main reason for tooth decay, is removed. A cleaning will also remove stains and tartar from your teeth. If you’d like to freshen your breath, brighten your smile, boost your health, and avoid spending money on more expensive treatments, make an appointment for a cleaning for yourself and every member of your family at Contemporary Dental Arts.
What To Expect
A professional cleaning starts by addressing the tartar and plaque that have built up on your enamel, which is difficult to remove at home with just daily brushing and flossing. Special instruments are used to carefully scale buildup without affecting the enamel. First, a device with ultrasonic technology addresses large areas of plaque and tartar with a lubricating mist and high-speed vibrations. Next, handheld instruments such as a scaler or curette will remove smaller pieces. Every tooth will be individually scaled to get all the tartar and plaque. After your teeth have been cleaned, your enamel will be carefully polished to remove stains and strengthen the teeth. If requested or needed, a professional fluoride treatment can be performed following your cleaning.
Dr. Shanard may recommend cleanings more often if you have other oral health concerns such as periodontal disease. Throughout your cleaning, Dr. Shanard or an assistant on her team will help you develop a good home oral care routine by recommending dental products and demonstrating techniques that can focus on your specific concerns. These are advantageous for your teeth, wallet, and overall health, so be sure to attend your dental appointments at Contemporary Dental Arts.
A professional dental cleaning is a preventive treatment, so it's typically covered by insurance. A member of our office can talk to your insurance company to understand your coverage before calculating the remaining costs. Our facility is proud to accept many payment methods and can help you attain financing through our in-house programs, or CareCredit® and Lending Club®. We look forward to making your treatments more affordable.
